About this listen

The Invisible Man: In what many refer to as one of the first and greatest science fiction thrillers, a mysterious stranger wanders into an inn, wrapped head-to-toe in bandages. What lies beneath the bandages is something even more mysterious. As Wells tackles issues of identity, deception, and the deterioration of the human mind, listeners will be drawn into the story of the mysterious man, whose own mistakes end up whisking him into a whirlwind of deceit, terror, and even murder. In the end, the question will be asked: when your sense of self and identity vanish, who will you become?

The Time Machine: After an ingenious inventor builds a device that is able to project him years into the future, he discovers a world no longer inhabited by creatures he once knew as humanity. These people have strange tendencies, similar to the ones he left behind, but something is missing, and when the people of this eerily-carefree society begin to come up missing, the puzzle only becomes more illusive. The Time Traveler has no choice but to investigate after his own machine vanishes, leading him to discover the truth behind the origin of intelligence. Is it inborn, or is intelligence birthed from circumstance and survival? If the inhabitants of this planet are peaceful, then who is kidnapping them? And what use do these people have with the Traveler’s time machine?

The War of the Worlds: What determines your future? Is it fate, or do you have a say in the matter? In what has come to be known as one of H.G. Wells’s most famous novels, the narrator is forced to ask this question. After a mysterious object crash lands in England, the inhabitants of Earth become aware of other intelligent life in the universe, and the threats they pose. What follows is chaos, the collapse of society, and a breathless chase. Try though they might, English society is unable to stand against the onslaught of Martians, and soon even the narrator begins to call everything into question.
