Publisher's Summary

The final novel of the Forerunner Saga trilogy by science-fiction legend Greg Bear - set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

One hundred thousand years ago, Chaos rules the final days of the Forerunner empire. The Flood - a horrifying, shape-changing, and unstoppable parasite - has arrived in force, aided by unexpected allies, and internal strife has desperately weakened Forerunner defenses.

Facing the imminent collapse of their civilization, the Forerunners known as the Ur-Didact and the Librarian reveal what they know about the relationship between the long-vanished race of the Precursors and the Flood. While the Precursors created many technological species, including those of the Forerunners and humanity itself, the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy 10 million years before. Because of that savagery, a greater evil looms.

Only the Ur-Didact and the Librarian - husband and wife pushed into desperate conflict - hold the keys to a solution. As they face the consequences of a mythic tragedy, one of them must now commit the greatest atrocity of all time - a shocking act designed to prevent an insane abomination from dominating the entire galaxy....

Good story but slow

Was a good listen but lacked action and depth of the major events just seemed to glass over them in favour of more basic dialogue between in interesting characters.

Good explanation on lore with some great characters introduced definitely worth listening to if you’re a fan of Halos rich lore and depth of story.

Essential read for Halo back story.

As a fan of the Halo games, after listening to this trilogy I feel this should be essential listening for anyone beginning their Halo journey or already on it. I feel it answers many questions you may have thought of about the Forerunners while playing through the games, and gives more depth to the Halo story.

Probably one of my favourite Halo books.

I love the flood.

The flood is very cool, the precursors are cool.
What is not cool is that 343 can't make a good game.

What a complete waste of time

Another pointless and boring Greg Bear novel that goes nowhere and where nothing happens. 7+ hours of inner monologue and people standing around talking. Not worth the paper it’s printed on. Don’t do it to yourself
