About this listen

The final novel of the Kilo-Five Trilogy by number-one New York Times best-selling author Karen Traviss - part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series Halo!

It's 2553. With the 30-year-long Covenant War finally over, the Office of Naval Intelligence faces old grievances rising again to threaten Earth. Angry and bitter colonists - still wanting to settle scores from an insurrection put on hold for three decades - crave justice...as does a man whose life was torn apart by ONI when his young daughter was abducted for the SPARTAN-II program. Black-ops squad Kilo-Five now find its collective loyalty tested beyond the breaking point when the father of their Spartan comrade, still searching for the truth about her disappearance, prepares to glass Earth’s cities to get an answer.

How far will Kilo-Five go to stop him? And will he be able to live with the truth when he finds it?

The painful answer lies with someone long dead and a conscience that still survives in the most unlikely, undiscovered place....

A halo book for adults

This book is best appreciated by a mature audience. I can totally understand how this book was controversial when released. The Books preceding it were very fun however basic dime store style novels with a military sci-fi setting designed to bring context to a FPS game.
This trilogy of books bring the halo universe into reality in a way that the other book preceding it were not able to achieve.
When I reread the earlier books as an adult, I was left wondering why is dr Halsey portrayed as a hero? It makes no sense. I’m sure a 14 year old me wouldn’t have thought about that. I would have likely thought it was cool and I believe I did.
I also really enjoy the mission of the kilo 5 team. This isn’t mass effect. This was a thirty year genocide! Of course structures where going to be put in place to ensure they don’t return to full strength.
Please ignore criticisms you may see about these books! All books following this trilogy pick up from plot threads this book leaves. So what does that tell you.?
