Tonen i romanen er lettere ironisk, hvilket gør den underholdende, til tider naesten tragikomisk, at laese. Og selv om ironien måske skygger lidt over situationens alvor, er "Gulvet er glat" trods alt et seriøst bidrag til akademikerarbejdsløshedsdebatten.
