Back in time

Got lost in the characters sometimes but mostly disappointing was the abrupt ending... what happened?

So disappointing and anti-climatic

I was really enjoying this book and its descriptions of a time in Australia's history when I was growing up. I was wondering what this terrible thing was that Tommy got sent to prison for and why there was this pervasive feeling of guilt. The ending was abrupt and I thought my recording had malfunctioned. The story fizzled into nothing in the end and completely eroded the quality of the writing that came before hand. Such a let down for me.
