About this listen

A gripping new standalone thriller from the bestselling author of the Jackman and Evans series.

Detective Sam Helsdown hasn’t seen his daughter Zoe in two years and he’s excited and more than a little nervous to be at the airport picking her up for a visit. She’s 10 years old and has flown on her own for the first time.

Flight BA631 from Athens has already landed and soon a trickle of people begins entering Arrivals. Among them is a little girl who runs towards him, head down, and throws herself into his arms saying ‘Daddy!’.

But then he looks at her properly. This is not Zoe. This is not his daughter.

Shortly afterwards Sam receives a phone call from his ex, Julia. ‘Help will come. Until then, guard her with your life.’

Soon unknown enemies are closing in and Sam must risk everything to keep this girl safe – whilst trying to discover her true identity.

A good story well delivered

A thoroughly entertaining story: pacy and exciting with main characters who feel three dimensional. The delivery was also good and paired well with the style and tempo of the writing

Thoroughly enjoyed it

I'd love to listen to more stories from this author. Great plot and not a dull moment. I loved the characters, too. Uplifting because of the goodness of the main characters.

Amazing!

I wasn't sure what to expect but LOVED this. Joys DI Evans/Jackman & DI Galena series are epic & I'll read anything Joy writes. It's not just the story. There is a balance where she tells a good story that gets you thinking - but also helps you get to know her characters (including lots of fun minor ones) & feel as though you're spending time with real people.

Good but not great.

It was good but a little disappointing to be honest.
Love Joy Ellis books but this one didn’t keep me interested at all. I tried, but struggled to stay engaged.
Abandoned book - could not finish.

Flop of a finish

Had me hooked for the first half, then towards the end it was such a disappointing finish. Had so much potential but didn't go anywhere.
Unfortunately, the Reader had a dull read, which made it a bit difficult to fully enjoy.

A great story!

Fast moving with suspense and character building, so I am hoping for more with these characters. I did miss the interwoven plots that Joy normally includes in her stories.
I was also disappointed with length of the story compared to previous stories from Joy.
So, the single plot was really good the narration was excellent. I marked overall as four rather than 5 due to short length (value for money) and lack of interwoven plots that Joy normally weaves.
Having said all that, I love your work Joy.
