About this listen
This book is for those who suffered as the scapegoat child to a narcissistic parent. The scapegoat child is emotionally deprived, devalued and trapped by the parent. The child comes to believe they are defective and undeserving. These beliefs can plague the individual into adulthood.
Scapegoating reflects the narcissistic parent’s own emotional disturbance–not the child’s.
Healing is possible for scapegoat survivors! New healthy beliefs about oneself can be established. This book explains how to heal with the three pillars of recovery:
- Making sense of the narcissistic abuse so you know it was not your fault
- Creating distance from narcissistic abusers in your life today
- Living in defiance of the narcissist's rules
Listeners will learn to apply these pillars in their own lives and reclaim the quality of life they deserve.

Essential listening
I recommend listening if there is even a remote possibility that you were the scapegoat child to a narcissist. This audiobook clearly explained feelings that I have struggled to understand for years, and that therapists failed to unpack or perhaps also to understand (feeling alone in the world; not feeling fully human; and more). I was originally hesitant to listen, and it was painful to hear in places, but ultimately extremely revealing.

Worth Reading
I really like that this has this information in one place. It really explains why I had the experiences I had in childhood and why I struggled in adulthood. I'm grateful that the content the author puts out explains it so well and how to recover. The first thing that sinks in is that there's actually nothing wrong with you, I had felt like there was for so long. I hope there will be another book about overcoming the adult outcome of this and how to reparent yourself in this context.
