About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Film tie-in originally published as The Good Shepherd.

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks.

It's 1942. America have just joined the war.

Greyhound, an international convoy of 37 allied ships, is in operation. As Captain Ernest Krause leads his first command of a US destroyer, the convoy ploughs through icy, submarine-infested North Atlantic seas.

All the while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats.

Grappling with his newfound superiority and haunting self-doubt in 48 hours of desperate peril, Captain Krause's hopeless mission is doomed to fail.

But armed with extraordinary courage and grit, hope may just be on the horizon....

Excellent

Not for everyone, you would need to have an interest in warfare, some of the technical jargon would lose many, what I love about this story is that it gives a real inside view of what men must do in the time of war.

An Epic

A really good story from the trials of the Atlantic in WWII. So many good men doing their deed.

A truly excellent war story

i enjoyed this immensely. an enthralling war story with a very interesting protagonist.
some other readers had criticisms about it being too complex to follow all the battle maneuvers and navigation - which is true, you'd need a map and a degree in nautical navigation to follow it - but you dont need to follow it, you just need to get a feel for the complexity and confusion of naval battles

Another Forester naval masterpiece.

Gripping tale of destroyer Captain leading protection for Atlantic convoy reminds how much we owe.

Blown Away

Good story but as my first ever audio book found it hard to concentrate on the story. Many a time I fell asleep and hence lost a lot in contact as the book doesn't stop when you nod off.

sleep......

great if you're wanting to be bored to sleep....endless detail of weather, capitan's every thought and movement etc etc. I guess if you were really into this particular aspect of WW2 then, maybe, you'd enjoy.
