Publisher's Summary
The original story is now an audiobook narrated by renowned actor Scoot McNairy (Narcos, Argo, 12 Years A Slave, True Detective) and produced by Dave Beazley.
A Thriller.
What happens when the proverbial Good Samaritan is a "bad man"?
Rayo is a convicted murderer a third of the way through a twenty-year prison sentence. His skull is misshapen from a long-ago collision with a lead pipe; he has a tattoo of a monstrous face covering the entirety of his broad back. Other prisoners are wise to be afraid of him. He passes his time in his cell gazing through the bars at the distant trees, because the only thing Rayo loves in this world is the color green. For him, green is synonymous with nature, and with freedom.
When a prison transport bus overturns on a mountain highway, Rayo flees into the forest before anyone spots him, and he manages to put significant distance between himself and the scene of the accident. But when he comes across a young boy - brutalized by his father and left chained to a tree to die - Rayo is forced to choose between rescuing the boy and preserving his own precious freedom.
Rayo decides to help the boy. And then things get complicated.
