About this listen
Great Eagle Wood begins with the election of Edgar the Eagle as leader of the wood. We see a pillow sale being negotiated, and so the great adventure begins as we embark on a magical odyssey that spans over two centuries. In Great Eagle Wood, the future is always uncertain, and the only constant is change. Behind every corner lies a challenge and around every bend an opportunity.
Invited into the intimate setting of the Great Wood, we experience the lives of the animals through their eyes, and we watch as the wood evolves from humble beginnings to emulate a complex modern society. This allegorical work examines how leadership and enterprise have combined in shaping the evolution of American society since 1800. In particular, it focuses on the impact that economic changes have had on our lives.
Great Eagle Wood is an animal republic where eagles provide leadership, ducks the entrepreneurial guile, and beavers the backbone to make things happen. Growth in the wood sees the evolution of a banking system, a stock market, and a wood wide web. But when their habitat comes under attack, the wood's very existence is threatened, and the animals are forced to take desperate measures to ensure their survival.
