Publisher's Summary

Jude is a 30-something sort-of musician made accidentally rich by a fortuitous business deal. Suddenly able to fund his obsession with wine and restaurants, he naturally embarks on a victory lap of Paris.

While there, he is entrusted to open the Melbourne outpost of a beloved bistro and curate its perfect wine list. But is Australian wine enough? Is Jude enough? To find out, he’ll stare down rollercoaster luck, his own demons and falling for his best friend – all while leaning on his Grand Crew of wine-loving comrades.

This audiobook includes an exclusive Q&A session with Tom Crago, the author, where listeners will learn how to sound like a wine expert and where Crago's love of wine began.

Critic Reviews

"This is a book about the wonderment – and its opposite – of being overseas on business. It is a kind of poker-faced essayistic comedy about tipping and strip bars, food (glorious and inglorious), taxis and vast, enthralling and unedifying quantities of liquor." (The Age)

"Witty, familiar and at times delightfully absurd, Grand Crew celebrates Melbourne restaurants and Australian wine in a global context, cementing their place on the culinary world stage. It’s long overdue." (Sofia Levin)

Not for non wine snobs

I liked the writing style, wasn’t hard to listen to. The narrator was excellent. The story bored me and was pretentious af. If you love wine and the pretentious descriptions of it (tones of snorkel rubber anyone?) and obsession with drinking, you might like it. I gave it an hour but couldn’t go on. I would probably risk another book by this author because I liked the prose, but the story…big nope.

A must read for wine nerds and non wine nerds alike

Crago takes us on a captivating journey. Following the journey of Jude takes you away into wine and food porn heaven. Whilst the detail around the wine is enough to make any oenophile aroused this doesn’t take away from the character development with Jude. Finding oneself and navigating friendship and love. A truly enjoyable read. Could and should be an Australian Classic.
