Der deutsche Humanismus, wie die Höhe der Literatur ihn zeigt, entwirft in mutigem Vordringen ein allumfassendes Lebensziel. Er besitzt in aller Mannigfaltigkeit der Persönlichkeiten und der Werke einen festen Grundstock gemeinsamer Überzeugung, er vertritt in seinem Schaffen eigentümliche Anschauungen von dem Leben und der Welt und verflicht mit dem Dichten eng ein Denken über große Probleme.
