Sita Walker
About this listen
Sita Walker was raised by five strong matriarchs who taught her to believe in God and to Be Good. Her grandmother, mother and three aunts believed in unshakeable faith, in the power of prayer, in sacrifice, in magic, in the healing of turmeric and tea, and the wisdom of dreams.
But as hard as she tries to be good, Sita always suspects that deep down, she isn't very good at all.
At 35, she hasn't prayed in years, her dream of true love has died, and along with it, her faith–not that she's telling her mother, or her aunts. Instead, she abandons religion in secret, ‘taking tiny pieces of God away, one by one, under cover of darkness.'
Now, the only way she can fulfil her destiny is to seek out the wisdom of the ones who came before, and truly understand the women who raised her. But will they understand her? Either way, the matriarchy will never be the same again.
Traversing decades and continents–from Iran to India, Sri Lanka to the Czech Republic, Adelaide to the Torres Strait–The God of No Good is a beautifully lyrical and funny intergenerational memoir about six women and how their lives intertwine.

A great read with lots of life lessons
Highly recommend this audio book. Makes me want to write a memoir of my grandparents and parents as well.

Glorious
The God of No Good reads like a novel version of a long lunch with old friends. It’s well written in warm, funny, gritty and unpretentious way that goes straight to the heart of what it is to be human.

Not what I expected but enjoyable
As a very lapsed Catholic who had similar issue over god and religion I thought there would be more on that theme but was disappointed. However I was intrigued to hear more of the Baha’i people and their religious beliefs.

Profound and heartfelt
I was really touched by this book. The author shares her life story so beautifully and honestly. In her own words, this is a story about love. It’s about finding love, losing love and opening to new experiences of love. I think it will particularly resonate with anyone who has made the pilgrimage from certainty to doubt - and found themselves in the process.

How refreshing
A wonderful invitation into the life and lives of second and third generation Australians.
It’s easy to see the migrant initially until you’re faced or forced to interact gently with characters in the book.
Enlightening and grateful to hear these voices as a migrant myself.
WeLove Persia and have been there 8 yrs ago. We know of these wonderful people living in the margins and endangered daily.
Soo when I see a Persian I always smile and try to connect for the blessing of having experienced their Natural gift of hospitality and unjudgemental way.

Love this so much ♡
I laughed, I cried, I hugged my loved ones a little tighter. I can't recommend this enough. The funniest, most heart-warming and thoughtful book I've read/heard in a very long time. The voice actor was perfect too ♡
