About this listen
Glorya Kaufman is a Los Angeles—based philanthropist who founded the Glorya Kaufman Dance Foundation. Her foundation provides the opportunity for underprivileged kids to take dance classes at Inner-City Arts by giving them an endowment to employ a dance teacher for perpetuity. Mar Vista Family Center is a school in the Spanish district that now has a dance floor. Next year, will be the 10 year anniversary for the Los Angeles Music Center presenting the Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance and the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, allowing more opportunities for outreach and creating new work, and the Julliard School Dance Studio overlooking Broadway. USC opened The Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center in 2016, a 55 thousand sq. foot dance building giving the opportunity for BFA degrees to dancers.
In 2019, there will be a 300-seat theater at Vista Del Mar, a school for mental health, autism, adoptions and early intervention services, which will be used by the communities after school hours.
She started a fund at USC Eye Clinic to perform only surgeries for children from infancy to 18 years of age for alignment of the eyes, a malady called Strabismus.
