Publisher's Summary
A Gotrek novel
When the Bad Moon rises, Gotrek Gurnisson descends into the heart of Skragrott, the Loonking's twisted, fungal empire in pursuit of vengeance.
Listen to it because:
The Slayer hunts the most ancient enemies of his people in the heart of their domain. It may not be the world he was born in, and they may go by the name grots now, but no self-respecting dwarf is ever going to turn down the chance to kill hordes of goblins....
The story:
Hell-bent on ridding himself of the Fyreslayer rune buried in his chest, Gotrek Gurnisson, the greatest slayer to ever live, travels deep into the strange, alchemical realm of Chamon. Using their mysterious aether-science, the Kharadron overlords of Barak-Urbaz offer an end to Gotrek’s quest. But, as the Bad Moon rises and murderous Gloomspite Gitz threaten to destroy the sky-port, Gotrek pits himself against the most ancient enemy of his people - the greenskins. While his aelven travelling companion, Maleneth Witchblade, struggles to keep him alive, Gotrek throws himself headlong into a bloody battle for survival that will take him into the dank, fungal heart of Skragrott’s Asylum.
Written by Darius Hinks. Running time 9 hours 46 minutes. Narrated by Jonathan Keeble.

good but not great
while I did enjoy it and big fan of the hack and slash gotrex and Felix books I found this ones characters especially the goblin ones not the strongest.
I nearly stop listening with the first meeting of the goblins ! learning about the characters and all the stupid goblin language talking nearly made me stop listening. happy I kept listening and this wasn't a big theme

An interesting story, with misplaced effort.
A very enjoyable listen for about two thirds of the story, until the narrator first does Grot (goblin) accents.
It isn't an easy job to do effective grot voices, and to make them distinct presents a difficult challenge, but it was so jarring at times that I actually went to the effort of borrowing a copy of the book and having the narrator on minimum volume for those chapters.
I enjoy the concept of having a character from the 'Old World' of Warhammer Fantasy in the new and askew world that the main character finds himself. Dwarves that aren't dwarves, trolls that aren't trolls (you'll get that in the first 5 minutes), it's all a surprisingly convenient narrative device for exposition.
I would recommend the slayer series (of which this is at least the second) for old warhammer fans, though fans of the original Gotrek and Felix series might not appreciate how different this is, like a favourite character dropped into a strange new world rather than any kind of sequel.
Those that are interested in the 'Age of Sigmar' world will enjoy this at the very least for its development of the dwarven (duardin) Kharadron Overlords, the goblin (Grot) Gloomspite Gitz, the Realm of Metal known as Chamon, and with touches on Stormcast Eternals, Daughters of Khaine and Azyr, the realm of Light.

Pretty alright
I guess it’s an aos book so the level of grim dark just isn’t there. It was an ok story that didn’t really move much of anything along. No huge revelations about the lore, still not a baad listen if you like gitz, go trek or learning a bit more about kharadron lore check it out
