Publisher's Summary
I’m the right-hand man of the mafia king. She’s a girl with a past she’s desperate to hide.
But I need something from her. And I know she won’t help me. Not willingly. She’ll need some persuading.
Lucky for her, I can do that.
Something about this girl makes me curious, though, and it’s more than the scars that line her back. She’s on the edge of something. Something bad. She’s like a perfect, beautiful doll coming apart at the seams. And the last string is about to snap.
She thinks I’ll hurt her. Break her. But thing is, she’s already broken. And she and I, we’re two peas in a pod. She’s my match, the perfect opponent. She’ll fight me to the finish, but I’ll win. I always do.
Because I’m a man used to getting what I want. And what I want is her.
Author’s note: Giovanni is a stand-alone dark mafia romance set in the Benedetti Brothers Mafia world. It’s an emotionally gripping enemies-to-lovers romance with a hard-earned HEA.

Building relationships
This book combines two very damaged human beings who manage to help and support each other. It is very violent in parts but this helps the reader understand the depth of their depravity.

👥 trigger warnings!!!!
not sure how to review this and i dont think i can without giving away spoilers.
the overall storyline was good and the characters are well thought out.
and this is were the spoilers come in...look away if you dont want to know.
our anti hero is a misogynist who is obsessed with a dead woman. our female happens to look identical to the dead woman so he blackmails her into bed. anti hero is instantly obsessed and by the end i still wasnt 100% sure he wasnt just using our female because she was the splitting image.
our female is severely traumatized. she was gang rape, tortured and held captive. the rape and abuse was vividly discribed with anti hero's reaction to go have sex with her in rough ways. i didnt see a live connection growing, it felt more like Stockholm syndrome and emotional manipulation rather then a romantic relationship.
the sexual abuse and lour females shame of climaxing during her rape is something many survivors struggle with and could have been something that could have been a healing lesson, however the lesson wasnt there, instead there were multiple graphic retellings of the rape which wasnt needed.
this book contains sexual assult, domestic violence, graphic torture/blood letting.
narration was well done.

Glad it was part of the unlimited section
Starting with the good. Both narrators were terrific and well suited to the characters.
The story was fine but I felt the author didn’t get there in really establishing a convincing transition to the emotional connection between the characters. They were enemies and then they were lovers. The plot includes a reason why the hero might fall for the girl but it didn’t work for me. I didn’t care about them as a couple.
Having said that it was entertaining enough for a free read.

Slow. No anticipation or build up. Could not get past halfway. Wouldn't waste your time.

Mixed Feelings
This is finally a dark romance - not a fluff piece making the mafia seem a soft and gentle way of life.
There are substantial trigger warnings for abduction and sexual assault.
I enjoyed the book but had some issues. The non-con between Giovanni and Emmelia is just glossed over and ignored. The author did not do this well at all. Emmelia had a horrific thing happen to her in her past and having Giovanni be abusive and their first few encounters be forced is a bit stomach turning.
The love is not particularly believable either. When she decides she "loves" him, other than being kidnapped, forced, bullied and having about 3 conversations with him there was nothing to warrant these feelings. She thinks of him "saving" her from drowning but he was the one who threw her in the pool against her wishes to begin with. It was contradictions like this - and there are a few - that ruin the story.
Many of the decisions Emmelia makes do not make sense and clearly are done to try and make the story work. At the beginning she seems to be smart, thinking through things. By the end she is just plain stupid.
Giovanni has little redeeming qualities but in his own way he cares I suppose.
The narration was great.

A little far fetched
I have read many Mafia Romance- enemies to lovers stories and this was far too raw in terms of the sexual encounters. No way it is believable that Amelia would allow herself to be treated the way Giovanni has throughout the story. A very poorly thought out story. Not sure what the author was aiming at- it’s sexually violent and superficial even in its resolution. Advice - this kind of sexual violence is in poor taste.. had to cringe 😬 in a few spots

Well what can you say. Go past the language and you get a great story lines. It hook me in so much I'd just had to listen and it had caricatures for perious books in it as well. I'm going to read the whole series. P.S my husband says I'm not a prude anymore LOL
