About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The TikTok fantasy sensation that's sold over half a million copies, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout.
'It's the arrogance of men to think so little of women. And it'll be their downfall, too.'
Locked away in a castle on the snowy mountains in the Sixth Kingdom of Orea, I have never known freedom.
No one can get in or out. Apart from him.
King Midas, who rescued me from the streets. Who gave me food, shelter, and his heart. Who I promised to love forever.
But when political upheaval sees me sent across kingdoms to a future I no longer understand, everything I thought I knew about King Midas is shattered...
The world has only ever heard his story.
Now it's time to hear mine.

Might Gild my ears
The story has potential, and I would like to see where it goes but randomly the writer has inserted flash backs on the main characters life that really doesn't provide a point to where the story is going.
The writing will fixate for a while on the mains thoughts, going back and forth in an internal monologue that leads nowhere and is frustrating to listen to.
The narrators voice switches mid sentence like she missed lines and someone had to fill in. She acts out the main character to be a whining brat.
It's difficult to listen to, would recommend buying and reading this instead, might enjoy it better.

Has potential - Voice reader choice for this not great!
I struggled so hard to get past the narrator. She sounded like a whining teenager, it really took away from the heavier elements.

Interesting story
Narrator sounded 13 and not 25. Story was intriguing enough to get the next book.

Nothing happens!
Do not start this series. The main character is so helpless all the time! All the time! She is also quite frankly stupid and it takes 3 books for her to see the truth. So essentially she just spends 3 books wondering if she is being used. and nothing happens

A highly detailed story
This book has such vivid descriptions. The scenes of rape and debauchery are somewhat gruesome and cringey. The plot line is obscure because of the amount of times that all of a sudden in the middle of a scene there’s a tangent about the setting and what everything looks like.
All in all a good listen, I’m interested to see where the plot line leads.

Wasn’t what I was expecting, but still a great story
I live fantasy romance books, like fourth wing, ACOTAR etc, and this is not a romance. It is more like a dark retailing of a fairy tale. The main character is a little annoying for the first half of the story, but it ends with her character becoming more self aware and interesting. I will be reading the next book.

A unique reading voice
As I listened I got used to her accent but in the beginning it drove me alittle crazy. I also felt like the story was alittle hard to follow at times with the wildly detailed descriptions dipping in and out of conversations. I don’t know if I will listen to the next one.
