Consistently great Military Sci-fi
Abnett makes what can/could be a silly universe for teens interested in a miniature wargame something worth a read/listen for an older audience that would never have heard of 40k or Games Work Shop. He writes fantastic actions sequences and creates lovely plots, fantastic worlds and twists throughout this series of novels.
This volume sets out what should have been book one (it’s provides more back story on key characters). It fills out holes & get you ready for the next volume in what is a very addictive series.
I first read these books when first released & coming back for a listen has been wonderful. The narrator does a fantastic job with a great range of voices and pace for the the many action scenes.
The stories push the boundaries further then a young adult lit (it’s military sci-fi). There is lots of action and gore but also plenty of examining the motivations & behaviour of the characters in what is a very dark universe of conflict, military oligarchy, tech and supernatural forces.
I enjoy this series more for then I ever did the game though I think they provide fantastic “world building” ideas for ppl into the 40k hobby. But also excellent escapist action literature for anyone vaguely interested in sci-fi action novels.

A cool look into the main ghosts
Loved the little bits of story for some of the main ghosts and that ending man it made me smile the mad charge and wild emotions of the blue bloods and ghosts getting their moment to face their past was amazing.
