About this listen

Haunted by his wife and son's brutal abduction and murder, ex-soldier Will Jaeger runs to the ends of the Earth to recover and to hide. But even there he is found and compelled to undertake one last mission and to confront a savage past he can barely even remember.

Jaeger agrees to lead an expedition into the Mountains of the Gods in the remote Amazon jungle. At the dark heart of this real-life Lost World lies a mystery WWII warplane, one that harbours a secret so explosive its very discovery may tear the world asunder. Terrifying forces are hell-bent on keeping the warplane forever hidden. Unwittingly, Will Jaeger is going in against them.

But as Jaeger joins a team of former elite warriors - including ice-cool Russian operator Irina Narov - he senses that the air wreck also harbours the answer he so longs to uncover: the identity of his wife and son's murderers. Hair-raising adventure, extreme survival quest and a shocking mystery reaching back into the horrors of Nazi Germany.

Good story, wanted more

Good story but left me wanting more?

Is there a follow up because there's a lot more to be explored and achieved yet.

My first Grylls story and wasn't disappointed.

Excellent debut novel

If you're a fan of Clive Cussler, James Rollins and Matthew Reilly, then you should enjoy this novel. It jerks around a bit, leaves you scratching your head in some places, but it's a good action-adventure page turner overall. A shame that the audio levels are low though, so be prepared to crank up the volume.

**SPOILER ALERT**
When is the next instalment being released? I thought this was a stand-alone novel, so I was a bit disappointed that that it ended on a cliffhanger.

A good listen

This was a pretty good read / listen. I enjoyed it more the longer I listened and was saddened to find it was going to be a series! Good news the second was even better than the first, so I am looking forward to the release of the third

Bear Grylls Immersive and Action Packed

Loved the military and adventure connection. I listened to this while tackling some of the biggest climbs in the Tour Divide mountain bike race. Indianna Pass under hail and lightening was no match for the well developed story pumping through my headphones:-)

The characters came to life with the excellent reading by Rupert Degus. As a kiwi - the NZ connection amongst the characters was a surprising plus.

Loved it. Will be first on the list for another book from Bear:-)

The start of something much bigger...

...For both Bear and his lead character.

I have always been a fan of what Bear Grylls has done on the tv but I'll be the first to admit I was dubious about giving this a go. Man was I wrong!

From the outset Grylls paints a vivid world with great characters and the performance of Rupert Degas really brings everything sparking to life. As a South African living in Australia surrounded by New Zealanders, I can honestly say Degas has delivered the best voice performance of these accents I've heard. well do Mr Degas bravo!

The story is well paced and changes tempo, a good dash of adrenaline and adventure but also isn't afraid to take some time with the more intricate and complex parts of the story.

As an avid Andy McNab, Frederick Forsyth, Robert Ludlum and Matthew Reilly fan I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the several twists at the end.

Roll on book number two Mr Grylls, roll on.
