About this listen

What is the best way for the average person to authentically experience the world's greatest mountain range - the Himalayas? Fortunately, there is now a good answer. The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is the most popular footpath in Asia. Its genius lies in its design. Trekkers wind their way around and along some of the world's greatest peaks, ultimately getting near 18,000 feet, without ever having to do any 'technical climbing'. This Circuit is widely considered one of the world's great treks, and mortals from all around the world are coming to Nepal for the unique chance to 'get high'. Bill Walker ('Skywalker') struggled his way through the Annapurna Circuit in 2012. He has written this entertaining tale of his journey in this land of Sherpas, cold, altitude, and rushing water.

Useful Info

Found this handy as backgroundninfo for planning an upcoming AC trip. There's a lot to learn from in terms of the author's mistakes, especially his decision to hire a porter sight unseen through a high pressure salesman on his first day, and making his altitude sickness worse by pushing on when he should have rested. Not a bad effort for a self published travel book.

Awesome book to read before going to Annapurna!

I read this twice, before and after doing ABC and EBC. It really captures what it’s like trekking in the Himalayas and I can’t wait to do the Circuit next. It was great listening to it in the long walks I was taking in preparation for my own trek!

Good Listen

The book is good if you can get over the cribbing the author has towards porters.

Great Personal Anecdote of Annapurna Trekking

As an aspiring Annapurna trekker, Bill's insight proved to be a good first hand account on both the Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp. Great listen and informative.

On a more detailed note, I think that Bill could handle the situation with his Porter better than letting himself to get ripped off like that.
