About this listen

George Washington was the Mozart of American politics who succeeded in ways no President since has. He was the head of the military and resigned when the war was over; George III, his opponent, called him "the greatest man of our age" for voluntarily giving up power. Washington set the precedent of serving only two terms that was not broken until FDR, and then a Constitutional Amendment was passed to prevent that temptation in the future. Washington was nominated by John Adams to run the Constitutional Convention and was later elected unanimously by the Electoral College to be president. His four major written works are included, which are as significant as any in American History: His Inagural Addresses, On Government, and the Farewell Address. A must listen for all Americans.
