New England, Maine. Langsam zog der Nebel auf. Kaum ein menschliches Wesen beachtete ihn. Denn er bildete sich weit draußen auf dem Meer in einer mondlosen Nacht. Seine weißen Fäden glitten über das dunkle Wasser und verdichteten sich zu einer scheinbar undurchdringlichen Wand. So waberte er lautlos auf den kleinen Küstenort New Port zu. Selbst der helle Strahl des Leuchtfeuers vermochte den Nebel nicht zu durchdringen. Er schluckte jedes Geräusch und jeden Todesschrei... der Geisternebel.
