About this listen

Runes are the ancient Norse alphabet used for communication, divination, and magical work. In Futhark, American runologist Edred Thorsson introduces listeners to the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark, their definitions, and mystic properties.

The runic system of magic and mysticism is one of the most powerful forms of metaphysical thought available to the Western world. The audio edition of this bestselling classic book on Runes is required listening for those who seek true knowledge of the mystery of the Runes.

Thorsson's presentation of this powerful system is lucid and profound and provides a valuable tool for spiritual transformation and self development. Futhark is expertly narrated by Brian Arens, an Audible Listener favorite.

This audiobook was produced and published by Echo Point Books & Media, an independent bookseller in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Not for the Novice.

I found this book Futhark -A Handbook of Rune Magic, to be quite detailed and advanced in the actual explanations for the practice of rune magic. As a novice I felt the information to be a bit overwhelming at times, but thanks to the narration by Brian Arens, I really enjoyed listening to his crisp voice and amazing pronunciation of Old Norse words. He kept my attention throughout the entire book. I would highly recommend him as a narrator.

The content challenged me. Did I really want to be a Vitki? Am I committed to such a serious practise or discipline? Would I be able to develop my own personal version of this type of magick? To me this book is a stepping stone to an advance level of initiation. I feel that one should already have a basic knowledge of the runes as divination, before reading this book, in order to create talismanic objects and magical tools, and then to be able to perform or memorise such rituals. I think this is a great book to have as a reference. The history and origin of the runes was quite informative. The appendixes and glossary was very helpful. Definitely a handbook.
