About this listen

The tower has fallen. Banners fly. War brews in the rubble.

Felix Nevarre, slayer of the Ravager King and destroyer of Domains, isn't going down without a fight. The Guild Tower has fallen, and Haarwatch has been split into factions vying for supremacy, and the people despair as monsters overrun the city.

Bloody battle is waged through the streets, but Felix’s power has grown—his core stuffed full with the spoils of his victory—and he's looking to put it to use. When the Inquisition advances its grip on the city and waves of monsters attack, he pushes back.

A new faction rises, gathering beneath Felix's banner those that are too weak for the Guilders, or too faithless for the Redcloaks. The goal of this faction isn’t domination, but survival. In their midst, a dangerous idea begins to brew. It sings in the Spirit and ignites the Mind, while the Body trembles with bated breath. A blue flame blazes away in the hearts of the fearful, leaving behind only hope....

And Fury.

It’s action packed. Great fight scenes and stats. However, the story is a bit weak. Fight after fight, but not much of development of characters and the overall story arch. It’s quite tiring after a while as it’s mostly stats but not much interesting development of the story. The system’s level up progression is a bit messy. It is not clear what exactly it takes to tier up…Can’t believe the protagonist overcame so many seeming impossible enemies and still stayed at apprentice level… The main antagonist is a bit one dimensional… The world seems to have lots of myths, but they are not well constructed across the books… No clear answers to them even at book 4. It’s getting a bit tedious, so if you like great fights and stats, it great to listen, but I’m stopping at this one…

Not bad but tiring

You know what I mean if you're already in book 4. That pattern just continues on this one so I'm no longer excited for the next.

it felt all jumbled and not cohesive, the constant perspective change in the last 6 hours dragged the final battle out so much it actually became tedious to listen to. The MC has become more one dimensional as each book releases and has gotten to the point that this story hasnt really progressed at all. The constant fighting for his life and his friends has actually lost its importance since 99% of every book is him fighting against unwinnable odds and coming out stronger but with restrictions or injuries no one has ever heard of let alone treat. Author likes to use a lot new and rarely used words to describe stuff to make it seem more important or awe inspiring but in reality they are explaining the same crap over and over but with newer and more creative ways.

Lacking in a lot of places

I confess I've become addicted to this genre, even though not a gamer. Having put off reading this series for a while, discovered I really enjoyed it when I did, and now can't wait for the next one. Fairly good on not overwhelming half the story with too many stat updates as well. A few minor quibbles (like, how ALL the bad guys keep insisting/monologuing that the MC should just give up, lol), but overall, really enjoyable. Addictively so.
