About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
With an introduction written and read by Katie Fforde.
Hero Wantage is desperate to change her fate.
When the dashing Lord Sherry proposes out of the blue, Hero is overjoyed—she'll escape a life as a governess and, once they wed, he can finally claim his inheritance.
But as Hero attempts to social climb in glamorous London society, Sherry is concerned that her naivety will ruin them both and takes drastic action.
The chaos that follows will push friendships—and hearts—to breaking point.

A highly entertaining romp
Well narrated and great characterisation. Owen Findlay really brings this G. Heyer novel to life. I can't remember it being as witty & entertaining when I read the original book, but this audio book version had me laughing out loud.

Terrific narration and a wonderful Georgette romp
Very much enjoyed listening to this. The narrator created a great range of character voices, and the story was a lot of fun.

Excellent performance
This is one of my favorite Georgette Heyer stories and Owen Findlay really brought it to life. His characterisation was outstanding and brought out the subtle humor of Heyer’s dialogue beautifully. The dynamics of the volatile relationship between Lord Sherringham and his runaway bride are delightfully captured against a background of well developed characters whose interest in supporting their friends is somewhat challenging. The story is told with great poignancy and Heyer’s characteristic style. I will enjoy this performance again and again, it is a delight.

Witty, ironic, great fun
Highly entertaining. Excellent narration. Great escapist literature (written during WWII). My first Georgette Heyer novel.

One of my fave GH novels and this narrator brought to life each character so perfectly! I'd forgotten how funny this book is....and how endearing. Thanks!

wonderful Regency romantic romp
I had never read any Georgette Heyer books before this audio book and it's been such a treat. Beautifully written with wonderful characters who the novelist obviously enjoys enormously, you develop a great fondness for all, even as she plays with them mercilessly.
A delight

Nicely read.
I enjoyed the narration of this book despite one or two comments that weren’t very positive. I thought the different voices he used were excellent. The storyline is not one of my favorite ones although the plot is clever. I do enjoy the variety of leading characters she creates. No two are the same and this book demonstrates that.

lovely nonsense
Best regency cant ever with the silliest endearing characters. Protagonists charmingly idiotic with a cast of well defined supporting friends. Hilarious dialogue and observations by narrrator in best Heyer style.

I have read 4 Heyer books to date and all have been great. This is my favourite. Love the men’s banter the witty satire and colourful characters.
