About this listen

An eminent physicist at CERN and the cartoonist behind the hugely successful PhD Comics answer the most important, most outrageous and funniest questions about everything.

You've got questions: about space, time, gravity and the odds of meeting your older self inside a wormhole. All the answers you need are right here.

As a species, we may not agree on much, but one thing brings us all together: a need to know. We all wonder, and deep down we all have the same big questions. Why can't I travel back in time? Where did the universe come from? What's inside a black hole? Can I rearrange the particles in my cat and turn it into a dog?

Physics professor Daniel Whiteson and researcher-turned-cartoonist Jorge Cham are experts at explaining science in ways we can all understand, in their books and on their popular podcast, Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe. With their signature blend of humour and oh-now-I-get-it clarity, Jorge and Daniel offer short, accessible and lighthearted answers to some of the most common, most outrageous and most profound questions about the universe they've been asked.

This witty and entertaining audiobook is an essential troubleshooting guide for the perplexing aspects of reality, big and small, from the invisible particles that make up your body to the identical version of you currently reading this exact sentence in the corner of some other galaxy. If the universe came with an FAQ, this would be it.

Fascinating topics, presentation a bit stilted

First off, I LOVE the podcast “Daniel & Jorge Explain the Universe” and look forward eagerly to every new episode. However one thing that makes the podcast so great is the humour and joking as Daniel & Jorge play off each other. I actually bought two copies of their book (one for my adult daughter and one for myself). This audible version of their book kind of falls flat and doesn’t really do justice to the printed copy because instead of the usual banter of the podcast it is like one hand clapping … you can tell a joke is in there but it presented in a very monotone way with only one author reading. I wish the authors the very best and I know it is hard to translate written jokes to an audible form, but if you could find a way to redo this audio and make the presentation a bit more like your podcast it would come across much better. Please don’t be discouraged by this review … I hold you both in high esteem and thank you for all I’ve learned the past year or two.
