Publisher's Summary

FRED & ROSE IS THE DEFINITIVE ACCOUNT OF THIS INFAMOUS TRUE CRIME CASE - NOW UPDATED WITH A POSTSCRIPT FROM THE AUTHOR. AS FEATURED ON TV, AND IN THE PODCAST SERIES, UNHEARD: THE FRED & ROSE WEST TAPES

Fred and Rose West are virtually unique in British criminal history: a husband and wife who loved and killed together.

During their long relationship, the Wests murdered a series of young women, burying the remains of nine victims under their home at 25 Cromwell Street, Gloucester, including those of their daughter. What was left of Fred West's eight-year-old stepdaughter was dug up from under the Wests' previous Gloucester home; his first wife and nanny were buried in open country. Most victims had been decapitated and dismembered, their remains showing signs of sexual torture. These twelve are just the ones police found when the Wests were arrested in 1994. There may be more whose bones have not been located . . .

Howard Sounes broke the first major story about the Wests as a journalist, and covered the murder trial of Rosemary West, before writing Fred & Rose, the definitive account of this infamous case. Beginning with Fred's and Rose's bizarre childhoods, Sounes charts their lives and crimes in forensic detail, creating a fascinating and truly frightening account of a marriage soaked in blood.

Gripping

If you like this genre then you’ll like this book. Interesting from start to finish as their crimes were so horrific. Gives you a good insight to both Fred and rose and court hearings and doesn’t drag like most of these type of books do. I even enjoyed the reflection at the end. These killers are definitely one of the worst I’ve heard

Detailed and thorough

Really quite good, certainly offered a lot more detail than I'd heard before. Narrated by the author, who was obviously great with pronunciations, accents etc.

excellent, exciting and vile.

this is well worth the money. what a vile, disgusting pair these two were. I get the feeling Rose West was the primary killer here. she still refuses to admit any fault or guilt. both there childhoods were despicable and sad, but it's no excuse for the brutal , evil crimes they commited. complete incompetence by the police and social services who failed these woman and children terribly. fred also got away with his crimes unpunished due to pathetic police incompetence yet again. Rose you deserve to rot in hell for all eternity. of there is karma, you will! psychopathic people the wests have no empathy.

A Meeting Made in Hell

Living in the UK until the 2000s, I knew about the Wests, but didn't KNOW about the Wests. Very well written, not judgemental, just the facts as much as is known.
Quite mind blowing that what went on could be going on next door to where you live.

Crazy and fascinating!

I was really fascinated by this book. The story was so detailed, dark and horrendous. The narrator told the story really well and made it easy to distinguish between people. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in true crime!
