About this listen

The latest novel from million-copy bestseller author Graham Norton - a dazzling, decades-sweeping story about love, bravery and what it means to live a significant life.

SUNDAY INDEPENDENT

Always on the periphery, looking on, young Frankie Howe was never quite sure enough of herself to take centre stage - after all, life had already judged her harshly. Now old, Frankie finds it easier to forget the life that came before.

Then Damian, a young Irish carer, arrives at her London flat, there to keep an eye on her as she recovers from a fall. A memory is sparked, and the past crackles into life as Damian listens to the story Frankie has kept stored away all these years.

Travelling from post-war Ireland to 1960s New York - a city full of art, larger than life characters and turmoil - Frankie shares a world in which friendship and chance encounters collide. A place where, for a while, life blazes with an intensity that can't last but will perhaps live on in other ways and in other people. But as Frankie's past slowly emerges, her spirit and endurance are revealed as undeniable . . . and unforgettable.

'Warm and wise, Frankie is a woman worth getting to know'
BONNIE GARMUS

SARAH WINMAN

'Frankie is a perfect song of a book and everyone who likes human beings should read it'

'Immersive, stunningly written, and very emotional - this is a triumph'

Another gem from Graham Norton

A whimsical tale, artfully told. Graham Norton has delivered a captivating story which made me want to listen at every opportunity.
Real life places, people, and events are woven into the story beautifully.
The characters were brought to life just so well, I missed them when I finished the book.
Thank you Graham, I look forward to your next one!

So enjoyable

It was so nice to have the little island of Alderney mentioned! My birth place! My sister told me that Tim White would allow the local children to swim in his pool and she would look after JA’s children! I digress I loved this book it was different not the same old, girl meets guy! If you want a good really good read this is it! Highly recommended! And GN is a great narrator too!

Precious!

Push play! You will be engrossed and entertained from the very beginning. A fabulous story, from an Ireland of old to today, & through a very sad time that must be close to his own heart. I loved it. Graham Norton has to be one of the best storytellers ever, this is not just a reading, he draws you in to each character with his wonderful Irishness. His best yet. Keep working Graham - can't wait for your next!

All anyone really wants is to be loved and to love in return.

As Frankies story is told she grows into the kind of person that you would want as your boss or your cousin. I would have loved to sit and drink a glass of red wine with her.

A lovely story read in the beautiful voice of the author.

The beautiful lilting Irish voice of Graham Norton brought to life the story of Frankie. I didn’t want it to finish.

The narrator

Absolutely loved it!! Easy to listen to. Just enough of everything; drama, love, lust, lost, desire and surprise.
