Publisher's Summary

At midnight comes the point of balance. Of danger. The instant of utter stillness when, between two beats of the heart, an alternative reality can slip through, like a blade between the ribs, and switch you into a new and terrifying world.

Four Past Midnight: four heart-stopping accounts of that moment when the familiar world fractures beyond sense, the fragments spinning away from the desperate, clutching reach of sanity....

Big fan of the print version, now a bigger fan!

I have read, and reread the print version. This came to life in the audio.

What's that noise?

Can hear interference during Langoliers, ruins it unfortunately. Sounds like low conversation in the background.

Awesome

I'm not the biggest fan of Stephen King but these are perfect to listen to while I drive 2 hours to work.

James Woods read is excellent. He really nails it.

Great stories & narrations

I’m an SK junkie and was hesitant to delve into his short stories but each story had me hooked until the end. Well worth it!

Representative collection

This is a great example of King’s genius in the shorter story format. Langoliers is sheer genius, bringing together supernatural and the study of human behaviour to make for a riveting story. Secret Window, Secret Garden is a tragic tale of a man’s decline and so well written. I find The Library Policeman hard going due to the intense and graphic nature of the human horror, but there is no denying it is a great story. Sun Dog is a cracker of a story and I love when Castle Rock and its characters are featured.

The narration is a bit patchy but generally good. I was surprised to find seasoned actors struggling so much with accents. Not sure the music and sound effects add much.

Excellent set of stories!

First story has lower sound quality than normal, but all well-matched performers doing a great job of the narration! Langoliers was a particularly edge of the seat story, and having watched the film adaptation of Secret Window there was a whole game in itself of finding which parts matched word for word as well as realising some great deviations. Library Policeman is a bit of a prequel to a few great King novels. Sun Dog was probably the least promising premise but of course still well-written and entertaining. I'm not familiar with Tim Sample, but was probably most wowed by his performance. All highly recommended!
