About this listen
Mountain search-and-rescue volunteer Bree Loewen's to-do list isn't quite the same as most people's. On any given day, it might include:
- Go grocery shopping
- Bake pie seen on Pinterest
- Figure out what to do with my life
- Rescue climbers caught in avalanche on Chair Peak
- Pick up Vivi at Mom's
A former Mount Rainier climbing ranger and trained leader in mountain search-and-rescue, Bree shares the drama and the camaraderie of this work, as well as the challenges of trying to fit her other roles as wife and mother into what is still largely a masculine environment. In a fearless voice - disarming yet laced with dark humor - Bree guides us through intense recoveries, vivid wilderness landscapes, and the warmth she discovers in motherhood, community, and purpose.

I was held rather captive….
I was held rather captive thru this book as Bree traipsed in and out and up and down the mountains rescuing human lives. What an incredible woman. Some of those rescues sounded rather scary at times and I listened as these amazing people took time out of “their” lives for “our” lives. It was truely awe inspiring. Bree sounds rather practical so I imagine she downplayed some of the grim realities she faced. Congrats everyone great book!

Humble and inspiring
A humble and inspiring account of years of volunteering with Seattle's mountain rescue. She talks about her experiences on rescues respectfully, though still shockingly, and also speaks openly about her own personal struggles being a mother and balancing her familial life with her love for what she does. Honestly, I feel like Russ could be a lot more supportive from the way he comes across here. I hope the author knows what an incredible person she really is!!
