About this listen
This one is a little different.
If you feel like the world forgot to prepare a spot for you, this is for you.
If you feel like you were born into the wrong timeline, the wrong culture, or on the wrong planet, this is for you.
If you’ve ever found yourself questioning your humanity and wondering if you are “something else”, this is for you.
If you feel like your life has been an endless quest for something you haven’t found, this is for you.
If you feel more aware of the pain, the suffering, the darkness, and the brokenness of the world, this is for you.
If you relate to these words, please know that I see you. That you aren’t anywhere near as alone as you feel. That there are others like you. Your pain is real and valid, even if nobody around you understands it.
You don’t have to hide anymore. You don’t have to keep wearing that brave face for everyone else’s benefit, even when it feels like you’re drowning inside. You can face the darkness head-on, and I can teach you how.
First, we have to identify the lies the world tells you and how to stop listening to them. There are six of them in particular that we hear over and over again:
- Everything is your fault
- You can’t change anything
- You're missing something
- What feels true is true
- You're not trying hard enough
- You aren't ready
Most people believe and align with these lies. You don't have to. If you learn how to recognize them and speak truth to them over and over again, they start to quiet down. This lets you be you again, instead of what the world tries to make you into.

Enlightening
I wish Scott was the person narrating this book. The content is amazingly helpful with an insight that only a sufferer can know. Highly recommend this book.

I feel seen
I don’t think it’s a book for everyone, but if you’ve ever had labels like dysthymia or persistent depressive disorder then this book is for you.

This book is so relatable.
Scott writes in a way that is caring, applicable and very easy to understand. His experience, both professionally and personally gives this book deeper and more helpful content than anything else I have come across. I only wish I had had access to this knowledge when I was growing up. Thank you, Dr Scott, from the bottom of my broken soul.

So much more than a self-help book…
It's rare that a psychologist can write about content with the lens of personal experience. It's rare to find a book that's simultaneously intelligent, digestible and relatable.
It's rare to encounter the level of empathy that Dr Eilers displays. It's rare to find a book which seems to not only help you understand yourself now, but to also give you tools and guidance to become the person you want to be...obviously that's a broad statement but in generic terms, how to move away from the darkness and find (and keep) the light. No shame, no judgement only understanding. If you've struggled with your identity, questioned or denied your own self-worth, or felt desperately misunderstood and alone, not quite fitting the mould that society sets for you; this book is for you. I can't recommend it enough.
Read it. Absorb it. Learn from it.

Outstanding perspective on mental health struggles
This is the single most relatable and supportive book I’ve had the pleasure to read. Scott has lived it so he understands everything us depressed people suffer. Thankyou so very much

Stops Gaps & Measures
It's a shame Dr Ellers did not narrate this book himself. He is more than capable as he has heaps of YouTube videos. I may have to purchase the actual book to read as the narrator on this is flat. She manages to run all the words together without giving it intonation with some Stops Gaps & Measures. Some of the sub headings get lost & there is no warmth to the words. It's as if she is reading from a tele prompter as fast as she can. There are many important subjects & words in this book but I can only listen to it in small sections. Will purchase the kindle version & will read it with Scott's voice in my head.
