Antes de cantar el último tema, una versión de los Rolling Stones, el vocalista, Joan Boira, se retira un momento al camerino, del que ya no saldrá con vida.

El inspector Bartolomé Monfort apenas ha tenido tiempo de asimilar la muerte de su madre, cuando debe incorporarse a la investigación de la muerte de Boira, cuya causa parece ser una sobredosis por heroína, algo extraño porque no consumía drogas ni bebía alcohol. Monfort acude al lugar del crimen junto a Silvia Redó, que ha ascendido a subinspectora. En colaboración con el nuevo agente de la Científica, Robert Calleja, Monfort y Redó investigarán un caso repleto de intriga y giros inesperados.
