About this listen
Michael Lewis, the Master of the Big Story, is back with Flash Boys.
If you thought Wall Street was about alpha males standing in trading pits hollering at each other, think again. That world is dead.
Now, the world's money is traded by computer code, inside black boxes in heavily guarded buildings. Even the experts entrusted with your cash don't know what's happening to it. And the very few who do aren't about to tell - because they're making a killing.
This is a market that's rigged, out of control and out of sight; a market in which the chief need is for speed; and in which traders would sell their grandmothers for a microsecond. Blink, and you'll miss it.
In Flash Boys, Michael Lewis tells the explosive story of how one group of ingenious oddballs and misfits set out to expose what was going on. It's the story of what it's like to declare war on some of the richest and most powerful people in the world. It's about taking on an entire system. And it's about the madness that has taken hold of the financial markets today.
You won't believe it until you've read it.
Michael Lewis was born in New Orleans and educated at Princeton University and the London School of Economics. He has written several books including the New York Times bestsellers Liar's Poker, widely considered the book that defined Wall Street during the 1980s, Boomerang and The Big Short, 'probably the single best piece of financial journalism ever written' (Reuters). Lewis is contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine and also writes for Vanity Fair and Portfolio magazine.

Interesting story.
Great story of how bits of wall street works. Well written. And very cool to know the back side of why exchanges need the speed and how to add a bit of lag to even up the odds

I am the schmuck, I am the mark, but now
I received about a cm thick pile of buy-sell order confirmations from my "Bank Stock Broker" a while ago for trades that took place over 6 months or more ago. They all stated that they "needed" to make me aware of "How the trades were handled". They then stated that they were processed within the "Bank" and that they need to make me aware of this. Goggly goop and why the F82k now?
This book explained it to me. I could not understand it all at first, but after relistening and asking questions. I now understand that HFT is something we all need to know about. It seems my "Bank" had a turn of heart (thankyou banking royal commission) and needed to come clean and change their methods. I was forever wondering how a trade went through at .0001 or .0005 off the listed price.
This book is hard to follow for a layman but if you do, it opens your eyes. Thank god for Warren Buffet and Quality Investing where you research, buy well and hold long. A penny is not important. But in this book .0001 is important.
A must-read eye-opening book.

Unbelievable and we still let them get away with it!
Incredible story, well researched and constructed. Shame the audiobook doesn’t have the Afterword as this is a critical piece of the story.

a decent story on the digital changes of the stock
a decent story on the digital changes of the stock exchange. good story on how the exchanges build features to increase their profits to the detriment of the investor.
