About this listen
When the beautiful Lady Isabella Scranford finds herself in the family way and her lover refuses to do the honorable thing, she knows her life is at an end. With a reputation for being a cold-hearted bitch, there will be no sympathy for her, only shame and ridicule. Finding that even her best - and only - friend refuses to be associated with her any longer, Isabella decides she cannot go on and makes a fateful decision.
Henry Barbour is known locally as the Bear of Barcham Wood. Living alone in the vast and decaying splendor of Barcham Place, surrounded by wilderness and woodland, he inspires such tales of madness that no one locally will go near the once grand house.
When a filthy and frightening man rescues Isabella from drowning, she begins to believe her fate has taken an even darker turn. Yet appearances can be deceptive, and an unlikely bond is created between two damaged souls who need to hide from the world.
As Isabella comes to understand the meaning of compassion, she begins to realize the most important things in life are not at all what she expected them to be.

LOVE the story and neurodivergent characters❤💜❤
This is my first book in this series and I intend to read more but I loved this story and I especially loved the neurodivergent lead male characters but also the other characters who have previous books.
Listening to Henry's differences and how in the beginning Isabella who judged him like everyone else but then came to see that different didn't make you mad, Henry was special and misunderstood and judged by society except his close circle. I loved seeing the growth of their relationship, but especially the growth of Henry.
Neurodivergent stories in my opinion shed light on how those people's differences and how they struggle in society, while this was based I think in 1800s, it's still true today that neurodivergent people are misunderstood and can be judged for their differences or behaviours. And that was is what made this book such a delight to listen too.
Philip Battley didn't do a half bad job at narrating the story either.
I dearly wish I could give this more than 5 stars for how much I loved and enjoyed it.
