About this listen
What was Mr. Darcy’s life like before he met Elizabeth Bennet? Before he stepped onto the Pride and Prejudice stage at the Meryton assembly? More importantly, where is he and what is he doing all the time he’s absent from the page thereafter? And what is his relationship to a woman named Amelia?
With Fitzwilliam Darcy in His Own Words, the iconic literary hero finally tells his own story, from the traumas of his early life to the consummation of his love for Elizabeth and everything in between. This is not a variation but a supplement to the original story, chronicled in Darcy’s point of view - a behind-the-scenes look at the things Jane Austen didn’t tell us.
As it happens, Darcy’s journey was more tortuous than he let on, his happy ending with Elizabeth in jeopardy at every turn in his struggle between duty and his heart’s desire, between the suitable lady he has promised to marry and the woman he can't stop thinking about.

Interesting take
I’ve never read any Austen fanfic before but I thought the concept of hearing the story from Darcys point of view interesting. While the voice took a bit of getting used to, I really enjoyed imagining the other half of the story in a way I hadn’t expected. I will have trouble thinking Darcy thought any different to what this book portrays now- it was very satisfactory. Well worth a listen.

Fantastic compliment to the original story
I really loved listening to this perspective of the story we all know and love. I thought it was written beautifully and tastefully done.
I actually felt the original story ended too soon, so this version of his story gave a fitting ending on my opinion.
I didn’t initially like the narrators voice however he did a good job of it and it grew on me.

A great insight thoroughly enjoyable
A great perspective, a really enjoyable love story from the male perspective in a time when men were discouraged from open feeling. Well captured and well narrated. Highly recommended to anyone that loves period novels.

Excellent
An excellent P&P variation. The story is essentially unchanged except that we hear the story entirely from Darcy's point of view, and another part of the story is added... one that Elizabeth knows nothing about. Before he even meets Elizabeth he has been courting and planning to marry Miss Lambright... a highly suitable match from his own station in life... not a love match at all on either side, but one of mutual respect, and highly suitable.... since he is looking for a wife to produce an heir, and sister-in-law to guide Georgiana and a mistress to manage Pemberly. But then he meets Elizabeth and his feelings come into play and throw a spanner in the works of his best laid plans. His plans with Miss Lambright give a good explanation of Darcy's stand-offishness with Elizabeth, and especially his vacillation between friendliness and austerity as he struggles to manage his feelings. Wickham's evil machinations even serve a useful purpose because without them Darcy would have been married to Miss Lambright before he even had a chance to propose to Elizabeth. So all's well that ends well. Delightful.

Awful unsexy narrator’s voice.
This retelling of pride and prejudice from Mr. Darcy‘s perspective is not bad as far as the story goes. However, the narrator voice is simply awful. It’s nasally and somewhat whiny and not at all like any other Darcy voices. I have heard in other renditions of the story on film or audio. I was unable to continue the book in audio form as it really became incredibly annoying and took everything away from the lovely words of Jane Austen. I don’t understand. Why would this narrator for this story?.
