Publisher's Summary
Gwen's never wanted to be a leader, but when no one else stepped up, she took on the role. As the mayor of post-apocalyptic Shreveport, she's made decisions to protect her people...and most of them have backfired disastrously.
When she discovers the dangerous gold dragon lurking outside of the fort has decided she's his mate, heartsick Gwen thinks the best thing she can do is confront him and take him far away from the city.
She does this to save her people - her sister, her friends, her fort. She doesn't expect to understand the dragon. She certainly doesn't expect to fall in love.
Contains mature themes.

not what I thought
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as reviews said the h was whiny and it was long-winded.
the slow burn of suspense, which people say is the boring day to day stuff, is one of Ruby's tropes. we get to know the h and H from the hotness to the character flaws and strengths.
this storyline had two subplots going...Liam and Dallas. I was feeling angsty and would have preferred Rast go instead of Von.
I don't think the whiny review of Gwen is justified and I think she redeems herself by the end of the book. Azars story is definitely going to be interesting. but boy is he making it hard.

surprised by bad reviews
another beloved slice in this amazing collection of stories. gwen is not annoying at all. she is a woman overwhelmed, doubting her self worth just like many of us do. so relatable.

Fire in his spirit
Another one that could of lost 25 chapters in the middle and you wouldn't of noticed hours of her" oh I'm not good and make bad decisions" him " oh I'm so lost and she won't mate me" and just repeating themselves over and over and over. Honestly by chapter 28 I was ready to stop the book. My advice you can read the first four chapter then jump to chapter 30. Your not going to miss anything. It gets good and actually gets a story line around chapter 35. Not sure if I will continue with this series. Disappointing.
