About this listen
One woman on a mission. Four cursed men. A primal magic that threatens to destroy them all....
Sophie has done her best to avoid the magical world for fear of the havoc her abnormal ability wreaks on other supernaturals. As a silencer who mutes the powers of those around her, she's spent her life among the mortals her defect can't harm.
But when Mother Nature pushes her from her home to do her bidding, Sophie has no choice but to venture to the magical town of Twin Rivers.
Instead of viewing her presence as a curse, four men see Sophie's arrival as a blessing. Carrigan, a psychic who hears everyone's thoughts at all times. Hagan, a bear shifter who transforms at the slightest provocation. Jonas, whose losses have left him isolated and jaded. And Valor, a vampire without conscience or remorse.
Drawn to Sophie, these irresistible men find themselves caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of magic that runs deeper than they can imagine. But Sophie can't allow her mounting attraction to keep her from her mission - because Mother's wrath destroys everything it touches.
Contains mature themes.

AWESOME
I loved this book! This is also a reverse harem which I love and definitely recommend. If you are one of those people who like reading a reverse harem and fantasy then this is definitely for you. The main character - Sophie - is an extremely strong character who meets four strong but broken men who stay by her side and support her throughout her mission even if it hurts them in the process. I absolutely loved this book as you can tell by this review and would recommend it to anyone who likes the kind of things it represents.

Captivating, intriguing & seductive
Enjoying this book came as such a welcome surprise. There’s an intriguing and refreshing flip on conventional expectations of hard/soft, vulnerability/strength, compassion/vengeance amidst male-female depictions of victimisation, perpetration, criminality and violence. I’m appreciating what feels like a really interesting exploration of righteousness, retribution, justice and morality through the concept of a Mother Nature somewhat anthropomorphised, possibly, intriguingly, able to manifest her will and retributive justice through possession amidst a novel/unique consideration of magical dysfunction/disability and use/misuse/abuse of supernatural power.
(Re-reading that sentence I see that it could convey the impression that the story is … dark? But it isn’t. I’m a philosopher at heart so I’m more probably more inclined to notice & appreciate these kinds of themes than most)
The book captured and lulled my attention into appreciation for what I came to feel as a seductively subtle poeticism. A delightful surprise.
I’m finding the interpersonal dynamics between the characters … heartwarming thanks to the compassion that flows from the combined empathy of the characters, and love that the nature of ‘need’ that draws the males to stay by the female’s side is quietly unassuming and that it is accompanied by an equally unassuming openness. Anyone who has grappled with the quiet desperation of hopelessness and acceptance in the face of enduring pain/suffering can understand and appreciate the unapologetic openness as genuine and authentic.
The attraction between characters unfolds with an air of ease and grace and their sexual interactions are languaged and laced with a gentle eroticism that’s delicately nuanced to align with the definitive nature of each sup. and the particular expression of vulnerability-strength that their struggles with magical/supernatural dysfunction, disability, victimisation have cultivated.
I’m loving that the elements of deep empathy and compassion that underpin the (back) stories, and that ties between characters aren’t in any way depicted as weakness. For me, they are made wholly believable thanks to the perfect contextualisation of the relief from having endured and reconciled to lives with ever present struggles with ‘dysfunction/disability’.
In my humble opinion,
the author shares just the right amount of the characters stories of struggle/pain - not too much, not too little, just right - to lay the foundations and create the ties between characters and story without embellishing or exploiting themes of suffering, victimisation or powerlessness.
So naturally, I’m moving straight in to the next book, deliciously intrigued and seductively captivated by the characters, story and lilting voice of the female narrator (whilst I am appreciating how different the male narrator’s voice is from other male narrators I’ve come across, I do wish there was a little more depth/gruffness to distinguish the bear shifter’s character … I only say that with the care that comes from heartfelt constructive feedback)
