About this listen
A must-read title for all fans of Patrick Rothfuss and Trudi Canavan, Fire is an exceptional fantasy novel. From the deft characterisation to the gripping story, the fast-paced action to the evocative prose, this is one of the strongest fantasy novels of the year.
Set in a world of stunningly beautiful, exceptionally dangerous monsters, Fire is one of the most dangerous monsters of all - a human one. Marked out by her vivid red hair, she's more than attractive. Fire is mesmerising.
But with this extraordinary beauty comes influence and power. People who are susceptible to her appeal will do anything for her attention, and for her affection. They will turn away from their families, their work, and their duties for her. They will forget their responsibilities to please her and worse, crush nations, neglect kingdoms and abuse their power.
Aware of her power, and afraid of it, Fire lives in a corner of the world away from people, and away from temptation. Until the day comes when she is needed - a day when, for her king, she has to take a stand not only against his enemies, but also against herself.

Mainly a good listen
lost me for a little bit towards the end. Main character got uncharacteristicly weak and needed to be saved by a man :(

Capturing
from the start, each character is enthralling and full. I found it impossible to not become completely invested in their possible outcomes

Fantastic but some rushed bits
Loved it and was n the edge of my seat BUT I felt like there were some rushed bits particularly with the Fire and Brigan storyline. We waited and waited for it and there was a bit of an anti-climax? Even the long-drawn-out war was suddenly wrapped up. Just wish we could stick to the same pace throughout.

I personaly enjoyed the first book more
I still give it a 3.5 out of 5 as the story wasn't as exciting as the first one but it still had a good heroin.
A few mystery twist and turns, if you enjoyed the first book then I do recommend continuing with this one - who knows if you go in with a lower expectation then perhaps you will then disagree with my comment here and call it an amazing follow up from her first novel?

Loved it
The storyline is fantastic with well thought out characters. The narrator is simply amazing - great difference in voice for individual characters.

Slow Burn
Would you consider the audio edition of Fire to be better than the print version?
I haven't read it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fire?
When her fiddle is broken .
Have you listened to any of Emma Powell’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Only Graceling the first book in this sires ,and given it has the same general fell and environment so I don't think that counts. But having said that I would definitely check out the other books she has done.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No I was happy to take it as it came.
Any additional comments?
I didn't like this as much as Graceling I found the pace a little grinding at times , the one windge I would have is that it was a little anti climatic in it's depositing of the bad guys department ,but all in all I enjoyed it .

complete contrast to Graceling
I found this one very difficult to follow. I loved Graceling but couldn't get into this one. The world was too different to the world we were previously introduced to and I struggled to see the relevance
