Finlay Donovan, single mum and floundering crime writer, is having a hard time. Her ex-husband went behind her back to fire the nanny, and this morning she sent her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an unfortunate incident with scissors.
Making it to lunch with her literary agent is a minor victory but, as she's discussing the plot of her latest crime novel, the conversation is misinterpreted by a woman sitting nearby as that of a hit-woman offering her services to dispose of a 'problem' husband.
And when the woman slips Finlay a name and a promise of a large sum of cash, Finlay finds herself plotting something much bigger than her novel.

No falling asleep with this one!
Hilarious!!!
Great story great narration. One of the best narrators actually. Improbable story but who cares? Will be following both author and narrator.

A cracking good yarn
This book was one of those which I felt from the very first sentence that it ihad a super well contructed plot, would hold my attention, provide some thrills, humour and excitement, and would never flag right till the very end. I was right - a really fun listen.

Single mom tackles the Mob!
Minor author and divorced mother of two, Finlay Donovan is struggling to pay the bills, maintain custody of her kids, and write her next novel. Through mishap and misunderstanding, Finlay is thrust into the role of amateur assassin while juggling Russian mobsters, her ex-husband, and the police - lucky she has a good babysitter! I took a punt on this first-in-a-series and liked it a lot. Finlay isn’t quite as funny or klutzy as Stephanie Plum, but it was fun. I admired her sass and resourcefulness and I honestly couldn’t tell how this was going work out until it did. And while there wasn’t a cliffhanger, the ending left me wanting more. Audio narrator Angela Dawe really grew on me - she did a great job.

Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. An interesting angle for the story and characters you find yourself becoming emerged in the lives of. I can’t wait for the second.

I loved this!
The 4 star performance is just because the narrators accent changed a little bit here and there which was a bit off putting. It has all the standard mystery romance tropes but also manages to be original and interesting. The ending had me purchasing the next audio book immediately!
