The slow burn that I needed
Honestly when I read the first book the main character annoyed me a little bit, only because of how she allow people to treat her, but I think that’s because I have a protective nature.
The first book was mainly about getting to know the characters, and I see fell in love with all of them.
I can’t wait to read more.

Defs slow burn, but a realistic depiction of the struggle to overcome past abuse and find one’s strength
So the FMC is sometimes agonisingly sweet and says things that are so … ladylike polite and almost cliche that I wanted to cringe, and all but the one male are also … polite, kind and sweet?, but it is consistent with the overall story. There are a number of gratuitous cooking scenes which are kinda random but I can appreciate those who truly love cooking for others and have had a few such moments so it didn’t turn me off. It’s not like all females need to be the combat ready bad asses I prefer to read about and there’s a decent story unfolding. The burn is barely a burn since it takes to the end of book 2 for anything remotely juicy to happen (which is always a matter of personal preference) and although I like a strong, smart, open and self assured FMC I have respect for accurate depictions of the realities associated with overcoming challenging past experiences even though I don’t choose to listen to many of them. Notice of bias: I definitely prefer the strong and smart FMC because the fearful and inhibited vibes resonate with the parts of myself that have spent enough time dealing with that predicament IRL to want to listen to too much of it when I want to brain off and escape. The males have distinct personalities and relationships with the FMC and the amount of time dedicated to worrisome and fearful inner monologue is balanced out by strengths like self control, a brain that has something to contribute and a determination to be ‘nice/kind’ aswell as learn to take less shit and stand up for oneself. If the first chapter of the book hadn’t been there to capture my intrigue I may not have kept listening but it had me holding out for the inevitable coming into power…which the title of the book + a look at the contents of book 3 and 4 assured me is coming. I think that if I had to pay for book 2 I wouldn’t have spent the credit, but having got to the end of book 2 I can say that I would probably drop the credits for the last 2 books.

Did not finish
I found this rather boring, to be honest. The female narrator was annoying also. I tried to stick it out but can't do it.
