About this listen
They grew up together, dated for years, but when Lennox had a chance at a college scholarship and a new life, Hailey abruptly ended things. She wanted him to have the life he deserved, and with her track record she knew she’d just bring him down.
Now they’re both grown and she runs the new branch of Redemption Harbor Consulting, heading up their security division. But her past is about to collide with her present in a big way, and she can’t outrun her demons any longer.
Years ago Hailey joined the military and ruthlessly cut all her foster siblings out her life. Now that one of them is in danger she’s back—and Lennox isn’t letting her push him away ever again. One of their own has been kidnapped and with the clock ticking, they have no choice but to work together to find him before it’s too late.
But the threat is much worse than they imagined. It will take all their combined skills—and breaking through Hailey’s walls—to unravel the clues in time to save him.

enjoyed the characters but it is written with a lighter tone
I waited a long while before. I decided to listen to this book I absolutely loved "redemption harbour series" and the narrator Sophie East Lake was superb, however, with this first book, I have noticed that Katie has changed her writing tone. By this I mean, "redemption harbour" books were pretty serious and had an underlying earnestness and suspense about them, but this book seems to skim the top of the suspense, keeping it light with banter and the camaraderie of 4 childhood friends. This seems to blanket the seriousness of the issue, which is okay If you like that sort of thing. Katies writing is very good, however, I liked the tone of her other series. The book was enjoyable, the plot, the steam, the romance, the character connection and the friendship.
I can see how it is all going to play out in the next few books. I especially enjoyed hearing old characters hoping as well. Hillary Huber did a good job of narrating. I haven't heard her before at her tone and inflections for the characters was enjoyable and I could decipher between them. I just my prefer Sophie Eastlake.
