About this listen
Feminism is a quest for the liberation of women from patriarchy. Feminism strives for a world in which women are not oppressed. Feminism prioritises exposing and ending male violence towards women and girls.
This is Julie Bindel's feminism, a definition born of 40 years at the front line of the feminist movement. Why then, she asks, is feminism the only social justice movement in the world that is expected to prioritise every other issue before pursuing its own objective of women's liberation? Why does the movement appear to be moving backwards, accommodating the rights and feelings of men and leaving women in the cold? Women make up half the global population, yet why is feminism still treated as a minority movement?
In this searing and groundbreaking book, Bindel deconstructs the many pervasive myths about feminism - Do women really want what men have? Can men be feminists? Are women liberated by sexual violation? - assessing whether feminism has achieved its goals and debunking theories that second wave feminism is irrelevant and one-dimensional.
Bindel shines a light on the most important issues, including pornography, sexual violence and prostitution. Drawing on Bindel's own experiences, as well as countless interviews with women and girls of all ages and backgrounds (as well as contributions from commentators such as Gloria Steinem and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie), Feminism for Women presents a clear-sighted view of why feminism is a proud social movement that every woman on the planet benefits from.
The invisible forces of misogyny affect us all.
This book is a call to arms to reclaim feminism for all women.
Only together can we resist and overcome.

Absolutely mind-blowing
Thank you, Julie, for this amazing, insightful book. I think it's so extremely important that women understand the roots of feminism and its facets, and there were truly moments within your book that were revolutionary for me! Keep up the good fight!

Clue is in the title, feminism FOR WOMEN
An amazing book on real feminism. Julie Bindel is a hero of mine in so many ways!
This isn't a book that focuses on 3rd wave feminist buzz words, this is the book that focuses on the real issues for women.
The working class feminist perspective that Julie Bindel has is just LIFE AFFIRMING for me, it feels like a breath of fresh air.
Also, Bindel has a wonderful sense of humour and outlook so this book is truly entertaining.
It is incredibly well written and presented, I have listened a few times now and every time I re-listen I get something else from it.
As an Australian, our prominent feminist is Clementine Ford, her books are good - but it is truly depressing how much she has given in to the demands from entitled males: for legal access rent women's bodies for prostitution, surrogacy and for unending access to our spaces. In a new world seemingly all about "consent" - the main thing third wave feminists offer women is a thousand excuses for why we are wrong (and possibly evil) to feel our boundaries are being violated in the name of left wing male appeasement. Third wave feminist capitalist rationalisations of prostitution and surrogacy are incredibly depressing - the answer to a poor and hungry woman is to put food in her mouth, not a dick in her mouth or another couples baby in her belly.
I am grateful to have found Julie Bindel, the adults are back in charge!
