About this listen
The four rules of freelance villainy are as follows:
Always wear a mask.
Never hurt civilians.
Never kill the heroes you’re paid to fight.
And the bad guy always loses.
Following the rules is what allowed me to build a career taking on superheroes in scripted fights. It's what let me to build my own evil organization. Gather a bevy of beautiful supervillainess lovers, and even get a cute mad scientist living in my basement.
So no way in hell am I just going to sit back as one of my villainess lovers gets framed for murdering a superhero! Even if I have to take on protein powerhouses, swarms of idiot heroes, and one of the biggest and baddest villains in the world, I'll clear her name, or torch my reputation to do it. Because I'll defend the life of the women I love to the death.
Ideally someone else's.

Second, Victor is always everyone's punching bag, it's kinda his thing. but in this book it was too much. When Glacia is taken, when dealing with the government spook, when being dropped by Razor, he doesn't just bite his tongue but actively rolls with getting screwed. And that makes sense when he's on the back foot and in a position of weakness, but after fighting through it and coming out on top he just accepts the return of the status quo, instead of pushing back. Y'know, calling out the HoE about how their inflexibility allowed them to be used by the real bad guys, telling Razor that their lack of solidarity has cause the price of hiring his services to increase. He keeps saying he's become a bigshot but this whole book felt like him getting pushed around like a nobody, and then when he was back in a position of strength there were no consequences for treating him and his girls like that. Just yeah, pretty unsatisfying, which wasn't a problem in the earlier books.
Why Valkiria?
