Mary Lynn Rajskub
About this listen
A riotously funny collection of essays by actress and comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub about her awkward, bumbling rise to fame.
It’s not easy being unabashedly famous. Fame. Fortune. Younger men. Being mistaken for different actresses who are slightly prettier and more famous than you. It’s all part of the gig, and Mary Lynn Rajskub is a pro. Hilarious and self-deprecating, Feme-ish is Rajskub’s debut collection of essays. Smart, satirical, and relatable, this book gives new meaning to the word icon, as Rajskub navigates the entertainment world against the backdrop of her own quirky idiosyncrasies. She describes what it's like to make out with Tom Cruise, be a waitress at Denny’s, and find your life’s purpose in 300 indecipherable, not-easy steps - all in a day’s work. Rajskub is honest about her experiences with bisexuality, her college years as a slug, and the bright lights of stardom, ultimately giving the people what they want: an endearing look at what it’s like to be unabashedly famous.

Yes you should listen to this, well worth the time
Mary Lynn Rajskub is an exceptionally talented actor and comedian which is why I was so interested to listen to her book.
She is clearly a strong creative type and has used her creativity to cultivate her voice and overcome personal hurdles.
It is well written and well performed by Mary Lynn and its clear she has lead a very unconventional and remarkable life full of interesting relationships and incredible situations.
If you're looking for the 'downside' it would be this, it appears that anything good that has happened in her life, which I have to assume would be many things, tends to be downplayed in favour of stories about people and/or events that are negative or damaging towards her. She does however tend to explain how she grew from those experiences and what she learned as a result of the experience.
Overall, I do recommend the Mary Lynn's book. She speaks with a warm and familiar tone as if she's sitting across from you telling you a fascinating story.
