About this listen

Lawrence Newton always dreamed of adventure amongst the stars. Now the ultimate prize is within his grasp. But what will he risk to get it? Fallen Dragon is a classic standalone novel by science fiction star Peter F. Hamilton. For fans of Iain M. Banks and Alastair Reynolds.

Lawrence is the sergeant of a washed-out platoon, taking part in the bungled invasion of yet another human colony world. The giant corporations call such campaigns ‘asset realization’. In practice, it’s simple piracy.

When he’s on the ground, being shot at and firebombed by resistance forces, he recalls stories of the Temple of the Fallen Dragon. Its priests supposedly guard a treasure hoard large enough to buy lifelong happiness. So Lawrence decides to mount a dangerous private-enterprise operation of his own.

What a great story!

Really interesting look on the human nature and a great story, with a very fitting ending. Brilliantly performed by John Lee. I really like this author!

Good story but narration can be confusing

Story is good. Narration could use some editing to place a pauses between paragraphs. Sometimess it's difficult to tell there is a change of character, which can be confusing.

Good Time filler

I continue to listen to Peter's books but find them a little too soap opera in between good story development.
i miss Ian m Banks but Peter is still enjoyable.
It was nice to listen to a stand alone book and whilst the story was slow the concept grew with some nice ideas.
The narrator is ok but he tends not to bring out the sci fi nature of characters instead he tends to identify the characters to 70s accents. still good effort i certainly couldn't do it!

Stunning as usual

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

John Lee is the voice of the Hamilton Novels, and as always perfect for the job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes if only I had the time to do so...

Any additional comments?

A superb story that encompasses several storylines in the way that only Peter F Hamilton can. the depth of detail is up to Hamilton's usual par, with characters that are all well developed and likeable.
This story blends both sides, good guys and bad in such a way as you find it hard to choose which side you the reader is on, finding yourself constantly switching loyalties until the very end.

another gripping human life sifi from p f Hamilton

The fallen dragon is another book of perfection from peter.

He gives a decent story line. A decent picture of human nature. Greater portrayal of a family with driven issues.

And a large bonus, this book is read by John Lee

Plenty of depth

It’s quite an onion this story. Peter F Hamilton doing his thing, just without a likeable character.
