Publisher's Summary
From the author of the thrilling science-fiction epic Children of Time, winner of the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award. Eyes of the Void is the second high-octane instalment in Adrian Tchaikovsky's Final Architecture space opera trilogy.
‘Tchaikovsky's world-building is some of the best in modern sci-fi’ – New Scientist
What waits in the shadows as we fight our greatest foe?
After one great battle, the Architects disappeared. Yet humanity’s fragile peace is brief. For, forty years later, the galaxy’s greatest alien enemy has returned. This time, the artefacts that preserved entire worlds from destruction are ineffective. And no planet is safe.
The Human Colony worlds are in turmoil as they face extinction. Some believe alliances with other species can save them. Others insist humanity must fight alone. But no one has the firepower or technology to ensure victory, as the Architects loom ever closer.
Idris spent decades running from the last war’s horrors. Yet as an Intermediary, altered to navigate deep space, he’s one of humanity’s only weapons. He’s therefore forced back into action. With a handful of allies, Idris must find something – anything – to stop the Architects’ pitiless advance. But to do so, he must return to the nightmare of unspace, where his mind was broken and remade. What he discovers there will change everything.
The explosive Final Architecture trilogy concludes with Lords of Uncreation...

A great continuation
I really liked the first book, and this is an excellent continuation of the story. Great pace, good plot and relatable characters- Tchaikovsky delivers quality yet again :) The narration is great too, good pacing and easy to distinguish which character is speaking.

Pretty good
Ive enjoyed the story for the most part. I do get a little frustrated at Idris character not being able to explain himself effectively. Its quite frustrating sometimes. When Sophie does the other characters its a bit tough to listen to sometimes. Her normal narration is great, but the Naeromathi is pretty hard to listen to.

Amazing story, leaving the listener hanging for the next instalment
Sophie Aldred is an outstanding voice artist. Adrian Tchaikovsky never ceases to impress me. Just when I think I have a favourite character Adrian reminds me how awesome another character is. Highly recommend this triology. Can’t wait for the final book in the series

No circle back to those loose ends?
I really love the world building, the interesting characters and species. But the loose ends in the plot drive me nuts. These aren't things that need to tied up per se, more like aspects of the story that you get tied up in, invested in, only to realise they serve no function in driving the plot and do not get revisited. There was mention of Kris' feeling that she'd build a strong connection to Kit, but that hasn't been mentioned again. Does everything here serve a purpose? I guess that remains to be seen. The 'idea' of the architects is fascinating and highly evocative. This mystery alone is enough to keep me here for the third book.
Overall, I'd say it's worth reading if you're into science fiction with thick detail and world building with a bit of mystery thrown in. 😉

i like big books but come on
good writing but in dire need of editing. way too much repetition, as though either the author has amnesia or assumes the audience does. If it weren't for the compelling mystery aspect I would not have finished this, and I'm kinda mad that very little was resolved in this one anyway. Not sure if it's worth reading the next one.
