About this listen

From the author of Lost Souls, Drawing Blood, and Wormwood comes a thrilling and chilling novel that best-selling author Peter Straub says serves as a “guidebook to hell”.

To serial slayer Andrew Compton, murder is an art, the most intimate art. After feigning his own death to escape from prison, Compton makes his way to the United States with the sole ambition of bringing his “art” to new heights. Tortured by his own perverse desires, and drawn to possess and destroy young boys, Compton inadvertently joins forces with Jay Byrne, a dissolute playboy who has pushed his “art” to limits even Compton hadn’t previously imagined. Together, Compton and Byrne set their sights on an exquisite young Vietnamese-American runaway, Tran, whom they deem to be the perfect victim.

Swiftly moving from the grimy streets of London’s Piccadilly Circus to the decadence of the New Orleans French Quarter, Poppy Z. Brite dissects the landscape of torture and invites us into the mind of a killer. Exquisite Corpse confirms Brite as a writer who defies categorization. It is a novel for those who dare trespass where the sacred and profane become one.

Twisted AF

A disturbing, violent, sick & twisted horror story of homosexuality, cannibalism, HIV & love in a twisted way. The only likeable character is Tran. But Jay, Andrew & Luke are intriguing & the interconnecting relationship that weaves them all together. The author has created a horrific beautiful story that will sicken you while keeping you on edge. Not for the faint of heart.

The narrator did an amazing job of bringing this story to life.

Lives up to the hype

Outside of Blood Meridian, this is one of the best narrated audio books that I have listened to. The way the narrator switches between the accents of characters was brilliant, and his annunciation and command of the English language is exceptional.
The above compliments Poppy Z. White’s story which is a wild ride to say the least. I read a lot of splatter punk and extreme horror pretty much exclusively, and given the age of this book, it really must have packed a punch back in the day when it came out. The descriptive writing is some of the best that I have come across: you can taste the blood, smell the open bodies and feel the knife plunge deep into the flesh as yours roam over the outstanding prose. I will definitely be looking out for more by Poppy as Exquisite Corpse firmly solidifies itself in my top ten nasties of all time.

Amazing book, even better narration!

Loved this book. It kept me hooked. I gagged, gasped and even cried. So beautifully descriptive.
Also, I couldn’t believe one narrator performed the entire book. His accents were seamless!

Wow, what a ride this one is!

I have always loved Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite and I’ve read it more than once. This is the first time I have ever listened to the audio book. And I was sceptical at first, how can this book get any better? My god! Joshua Saxton really did this book justice and I was very impressed. Never boring, always beautiful and deeply disturbing. Read this book at your own risk as it will stay with you for life!
