About this listen
A smart, sexy guide to embracing the repressed, tabooed, and often unwanted aspects of ourselves so we can discover our inner power and finally live the life we deserve.
“We always get exactly what we want; but often, though we may not be aware of it, what we most want is dark - very dark.”
Each of us has a dual nature: we are light (conscious) and dark (unconscious). The dark side of our personality - the “other”, the shadow side - is made up of what we think is our primitive, primal, negative impulses - our “existential kink.” Our existential kink also drives the dark or negative repeating patterns in our life: always choosing the abusive partner or boss, settling for less, thinking that we’re undeserving, not worthy. But it also is the source of our greatest power.
In Existential Kink, Carolyn Elliot, PhD, offers a truth-telling guide for bringing our shadow into the light. Inviting us to make conscious the unconscious, Elliot asks us to own the subconscious pleasure we get from the stuck, painful patterns of our existence.
Existential Kink provides practical advice and meditations so we truly see our shadow side’s “guilty pleasures”, love and accept them, and integrate them into our whole being. By doing so, Elliot shows, we bring to life the raw, hot, glorious power we all have to get what we really want in our lives.

A Course In Miracles for Hedonists
Some very thought provoking and challenging ideas, not for the faint of heart or brittle of humour. I especially enjoyed the author's interpretation of alchemical symbolism, some of the best I've come across. Recommended!

Great, except for the gender bits.
There's so much about this that's great. Good, solid self development, and not of the variety that just aims to bolster our short term ego. Good for the world.
My only criticism is that it falls back on the old trope that we're moving from a backwards, negative masculine way, to an enlightened, positive, feminine way. I don't need yet another a source of painful criticism telling me that I am flawed and unsavable because of my gender. I thought we were moving on from that; I would not put up with women being described like that.

Magnificently life changing
After decades of personal work, with much of it focusing on healing trauma, this book is so timely. Instead of the usual positive thinking and the like (which, of course do have their place) the EK work delves into very interesting shadow work. I came out of it with a totally new perspective on my destructive patterns. I stopped taking them also seriously and realised that all of the drama was completely self-created. I am looking forward to diving deep up as I evolve with the exercises in the book.

Amazing
Amazing perspective shift. I’m used to asking what’s the payoff for having XYZ but never taken the next step of honouring the pleasure side of that

Genius. Hilarious. Game-changing
That was the best freaking ‘self-help’ book I ever listened to. The moment of letting my unconscious love being insignificant and unimportant to people that I love, was so revelatory and ecstatic! This practice is totally game-changing. Also, the book is hilarious. Highly recommend.

Interesting helpful angle
I really enjoyed this audio book. It gave me pause for thinking from a different perspective and that always helps.
I found the ploys of ‘The Gods’ hard to take in.
I really enjoyed the narrative. It had me giggling at times and just a wonderful voice to Listen to.
Altogether- great
