About this listen
When novelist and experienced hiker Simon Cleary sets off to follow the course of the river that has so influenced his life, he hopes that by walking its banks - from its source to where it empties into the bay - he will better understand the power and impact of this immense waterway on the environment and communities which rely on it.
Cleary's ambitious journey explores the ways rivers connect landscapes, ecologies, histories, communities and myth. But his trek along the unpredictable and magnificent Brisbane River threatens to be cut short by one of the wettest autumn months on record. Over four eventful weeks and 344 kilometres, we are witness to the river in all its beauty and fury. EVERYTHING IS WATER is an inspiring pilgrimage that invites us to connect with nature and also to navigate our own path.

A great adventure tale woven with history and stories of the river
Really enjoyed this retelling of Simon’s adventure. As someone who grew up in Meanjin and who regularly travels the Brisbane Valley Highway the descriptions of the places were very vivid and meant a lot. I learnt so much about the history and the stories of those who came before us.
A great book that is highly recommended.
Sadly it was let down by so many mispronunciations by the performer. Especially the name of one of the major characters in the story. It’s vital that all place names be checked with a local before recording. I’m sure Simon would have put the performer straight. It was really jarring after a while. Apart from the mispronunciation it was a great performance and was easy to follow so it’s such a letdown. It’s not enough to make me avoid the book but natives of Meanjin and surrounds be warned!

Love This Book
One of the most inspirational reads in a long time. Cleary, like in his previous 3 books delivers a work of beauty and a story of adventure and hope as he walks the length of the Brisbane River during one of the wettest Mays on record. If you liked Raynor Winn's The Salt Path, you will love this.

Juxtaposition of Australian landscape and un Australian self indulgent litturary waffle - not much fun
