Publisher's Summary
Can a family bond stand the test of time?
Lady Tiliani Forelli is the epitome of the She-Wolves who raised her, an adept archer with a mind of her own. It is long past time for her to wed, but she deems each young lord who comes to bid for her hand lacking. With battles upon their border, and rumors of war growing louder on every front, Lady Forelli’s decision could secure her kingdom’s peace...or bring about its destruction.
Centuries later, history major Luciana Betarrini takes a summer job alongside her twin, Domenico, as a period actor at Castello Forelli in Italy. As incoming college seniors, this might be their last chance to spend meaningful time together, so she’s soaking up every minute. But when Nico's theory that their lost Betarrini relatives have traveled through time becomes potentially real—and they might be able to follow—Luci fears they’ll be forever divided.

A Charming Adventure for All Ages
It was a pleasure to return to Tuscany and the growing Betarini family for their next adventure in Estuary. I have loved Lisa Bergren's books since I ordered the first installment in the River and Oceans of Time universe, Waterfall, from my school's bookclub on a whim over 10years ago, and Lisa has continued to bring to life vibrant, strong women who girls can look up to and women can see themselves in.
Estuary weaves together themes of love, family and belonging against the engaging backdrop of medieval Italy and the politics that come with it.
Something that Lisa always does well in her romances is create stories and characters that engage with the political and social climate around them, rather than simply using plot points to further the romantic elements, and she continues to impress with the new generation of She-Wolves, Tilliani and Luciana. These two young women navigate love within their lives, rather than having their stories revolve around it. My only complaint would be that I wish there was more!
Light-hearted and with a surplus of metaphors for life and love (but isn't that what makes Lisa's books so charming?), I love that I can share this book with both my Mum, friends, and younger sisters in their early teens. As a woman who grew up in the digital age and has sisters I am hoping to encourage to become strong, mature women even as I raise my own young daughter, I encourage them all to always behave in such a way that they can always be proud of who they are and the decisions they make. To me, Tilliani and Luciana are beautiful exaples of what this looks like. In a world of Katnisses, be a Tilliani.
